Advocacy for Pittsburgh taxpayers and Pittsburgh businesses - Allegheny Institute

Advocacy for Pittsburgh taxpayers and Pittsburgh businesses - Allegheny Institute: "With thirty co-sponsors, a bill introduced by Rep. Paul Costa would ban the imposition of the proposed education privilege tax in Pittsburgh and preclude any other municipality in Pennsylvania from enacting such a levy. The so called 'fair share tax' is highly controversial and has enraged students and prompted university officials to mount a serious opposition campaign. And rightly so: as we have pointed out over recent weeks, this tax is one of the worst ideas ever to arise out of Pittsburgh government."

"The men and women Elmendorf who play a vital role in the air defense of our nation and, if necessary, in the projection of dominant aerospace power overseas understandably wanted to have as the backdrop for an important presidential address their best weapon system, the F-22 Raptor. There was only one problem: President Obama had made the cancellation of production of this state-of-the-art air superiority fighter one of his signature 'defense' initiatives."

Commonwealth Foundation - Pennsylvania's October Revenues Fall Short

Commonwealth Foundation - Pennsylvania's October Revenues Fall Short: "The Pennsylvania Department of Revenue released October revenue collections. Once again, the numbers fell short of projections - the state is now $160 short of estimate for the fiscal year.
The tax collections were slightly higher than last year (note that $1.8 billion was 'non-tax revenue', i.e. transfers from the Rainy Day Fund and other funds).
Prognosis - things are looking more and more like another budget shortfall.

Tea Party Express Comes to Scranton, PA Spet. 10th

PLEASE ATTEND IF YOU CAN!!!
WOW, we have the infamous Tea Party Express rolling into Scranton PA this Thursday, September 10th at Noon! As seen on TV, this is a fantastic opportunity to get involved and let you voice be heard, and also be seen. No doubt there will be network coverage of the stop in our traditionally blue collar Democrat county.

No matter party affiliation, we need to fight what is unwise and unconstitutional! The X Amendment (Tenth) reads: "Powers not given to the Federal Government are specifically reserved to the states!" It does not get much clearer than that!

Please forward to friends & family. Loading our children with debt, cutting seniors health care via rationing by half a trillion dollars while ten thousand baby boomers enter the system a week will be a disaster! Speak up this Thursday, 9/10/2009 at noon.

IF not us, who. If not now, when?

DON'T FORGET YOUR SIGNS!!

Pennsylvania's Tax and Debt Burden | POLICY POINTS from the Commonwealth Foundation

Useful Information from the Commonwealth Foundation:
"Tax Freedom Day is the day of the calendar year when Americans have finally earned enough money to pay all of their federal, state, and local taxes. The following table shows the dates to which Pennsylvanians had to work in 2009 in order to foot the bill.
In 2009, Pennsylvanians worked 104 days—January 1 to April 14—just to pay their tax bill.
Federal, state, and local taxes consume 28.5% of Pennsylvanians’ income (41% if federal deficit spending is added to the mix)
Overall, Pennsylvanians will spend more of their income on taxes than they will on food, clothing, and housing combined." Visit: Pennsylvania's Tax and Debt Burden | POLICY POINTS from the Commonwealth Foundation:

Desperate States and Decaying Federalism

From the Center for Vision and Values: Why are prosperous states like New York, New Jersey and California failing?
"The article focused on New York, New Jersey, and California, which are all cases of erstwhile prosperous states that have fallen on hard times. The common denominator has been liberal/“progressive” (i.e., big) government. All three employ heavy “soak-the-rich” state and local tax policies; and, yet, their government deficits are enormous. They rank near the top in per-capita state spending, but suffer from high unemployment and below-average job creation. They sought to be workers’ paradises with heavy unionization and a minimum wage above the national standard, yet lead the country in people moving out of state. What gives?
As Ronald Reagan would say, government is the problem, not the cure. The article continues: Desperate States and Decaying Federalism:

America’s Debt Problem

"Thrift used to be a virtue in America. In Asia, thrift remains a way of life—for example, it is estimated that the average Chinese family’s thrift rate is 30 to 40 percent—which helps explain the rapid growth rates there.
A century ago, the sociologist Max Weber credited the so-called “Protestant work ethic,” combining thrift with hard work as the engine of America’s economic preeminence. How times have changed! While many Americans are thrifty, many are not. The political divide of blue-state and red-state Americans is replicated in an economic division between red-ink and black-ink personal finances." The Cynical Politics of Global Warming and Its Hobgoblins

The Cap and Trade recently passed by the House (but read by no one)deals with energy, taxation and the socalled solution to global worming. For those who need ammunition to fight this bikll in the Senate, a 2008 article by the Center for Vision and values, will provide some ammunition Visit:
"“Cynical politics” may be a redundancy, but it is hard to imagine a mo1re cynical political issue than global warming (GW). In his 1992 book Earth in the Balance, Al Gore called for a “wrenching transformation of society.” Leftists, with their elitist penchant for social engineering, didn’t need any convincing. The challenge for Gore was the inconvenient truth that, in a democracy, a would-be central planner needs to get the masses on his side, too. To do that, he borrowed a strategy encapsulated in H.L. Mencken’s statement, “The whole aim of practical politics is to keep the populace alarmed by menacing it with an endless series of hobgoblins, all of them imaginary.” Apocalyptic GW became Al Gore’s hobgoblin of choice."

Detroit: A Glimpse into America’s Future?: "preview of the damage of an overbearing government can be gained by spending some time in Detroit, my hometown. Detroit was arguably the most prosperous city in the world in the 1920s. Today, however, whole neighborhoods are abandoned; still-occupied neighborhoods are in a frightful state of decay; some of the streets are so rough you would think that the military used them for target practice. Most startling is that the median sale price for a house in the once-thriving city of Detroit this January was $7,500. Yes, 75 HUNDRED, not “thousand.” You can buy two or three houses in Detroit today for the price of one new car.
What happened? What explains this sad decline?"

Limited Options for Dealing with North Korea

Limited Options for Dealing with North Korea: "Kim Jong Il, North Korea’s psychotic “Dear Leader,” specializes in “guerrilla diplomacy.” He backs it up with a half-dozen or so nuclear weapons squirreled away deep inside mountain storage facilities that cannot be reached by our bunker-buster bombs, and an army roughly the size of South Korean and U.S. ground forces combined. Kim’s diplomatic record also shows that he doesn’t care. His response to China—his nation’s biggest supporter and only ally—plus to Russia, Japan, and the United States, has been, “Get lost! We’re producing nuclear weapons whether you like it or not.” North Korea has done just that.

Obama’s Education Two-Step

Obama’s Education Two-Step: "While President Obama’s proposals to incrementally bleed the private health care and energy sectors are receiving far more coverage in the mainstream media, his plans for education are dramatically more radical. For what the White House has in mind stops just inches short of the total abolition of private lending for college students.
What Obama intends is the elimination of the Federal Family Education Loan Program, a public-private partnership that is the primary vehicle for providing college loans in America. According to the Congressional Budget Office, his plan would save $94 billion over 10 years by eliminating the private lenders and leaving the loans fully controlled by Washington. Expect to hear that figure often in this debate, as it is the sedative by which the White House will seek to pacify fiscal conservatives."

The Washington Independent » Chris Lilik of Grassroots PA Comments on Arlen Specter

"Specter spent several months attempting to win over the base, experiencing slightly more success in Washington than in Pennsylvania by declaring his opposition to the Employee Free Choice Act and introducing (for the second time in two years) a flat tax reform bill. According to Chris Lilik, the editor of the conservative Pennsylvania Website GrassrootsPA.com and 2004 Toomey campaign staffer, Specter hadn’t been gaining ground with that strategy. Lilik pointed to Specter’s statements Tuesday about not wanting to “face the jury” of the Pennsylvania Republican primary electorate as proof.
“There were so many issues he just wasn’t smart about,” said Lilik. “”It’s really unfair to blame conservatives for this. His problems with the base were all self-inflicted. He did this to himself.”" Visit:

Art of the Impossible by Thomas Sowell on National Review Online

"You want the government to create more jobs for people when there is widespread unemployment? It’s been done. During the Great Depression of the 1930s, the government employed more young men in the Civilian Conservation Corps than there were in the Army. The money to pay for all this had to come from somewhere— and that meant that there was less money left to employ other people in the private sector. While jobs created by the government may not have reduced total unemployment, these jobs increased votes for the administration, which is the real bottom line in politics." Visit:

ZENIT - Pope: Christ's Agony Moves the Hardest Hearts: "ROME, APRIL 10, 2009 (Zenit.org).- Even the hardest of hearts are moved to pity upon witnessing Christ's suffering during his passion and death, as it reveals the fullness of God's love for mankind, says Benedict XVI.

The Pope said this tonight at the end of the Way of the Cross at Rome's Colosseum. Speaking from atop the Palatine hill, he reflected on the words of the centurion whom St. Mark quotes at the end of his Passion narrative: 'The centurion, who stood facing him, saw that he thus breathed his last, and said: ‘Truly this man was the Son of God!’'"

The appeal to speed and urgency by President Obama is an invitation to overlook details of the bill, which would accelerate the transformation of America from a capitalistic system that exalts the individual to a socialistic system that exalts the state."

Scranton Bishops Irish Catholic Organizations Should Not Honor Pro-Abortion Officials - Scranton: The Times-Tribune

"In a letter to the heads of three local Irish-American organizations, the Roman Catholic Diocese of Scranton has threatened to close St. Peter’s Cathedral during St. Patrick’s Day celebrations if the groups feature elected officials who support abortion rights at their annual events.

The letter, which was signed by Auxiliary Bishop John M. Dougherty, reports that Bishop Joseph F. Martino is “determined to prevent scandal,” which would be caused if the organizations “in any way” should “honor pro-abortion officials” by giving them parade or dais positions or opportunities to speak and “the Catholic Church is seen to be involved in this honoring.”" Visit:

KCFL - A Life Saved by Pro-Life Sidewalk Counselor

Pay close attention to this story. It is a perfect example of the importance of standing vigil in front of the abortion clinics and Planned Parenthoods of our nation. (This begins on Ash Wednesday)
A mixed racial couple were headed for an abortion appointment at George Tiller's abortion facility. This is an excerpt from the story:

"The man had asked; 'Why is God punishing me so much?'

Jennifer (the pro-life sidewalk counselor) retorted; 'A child is never a punishment! A child is ALWAYS a gift from God!

Jennifer went on: 'It takes three persons to make a baby: a man, a woman, and God. If any one of those three is not present, then their will not be a new life.

Jennifer said: 'Look at Barack Obama, for example. His mom is white, - from here in Kansas, - and his father is black. His father did not want to have much to do with him, and yet Barack is now the President of the United States! Maybe this child will grow up to be the one who finds the cure for cancer… or some other great thing!'

They had talked for about 20 minutes, and now, Jennifer's example of Barack Obama really seemed to have made a difference.

With tears in everyone's eyes, the man said: 'Okay, I have heard enough! I have made up my mind. We are keeping this baby and I will raise it as my own!'

At that, the woman got out of the car, and crying even more than she was previously, she ran to Jennifer and gave her a big hug and told her 'THANK YOU' several times" For the full story visit: KCFL - Project LPPPA:

James Madison Center Press Release of Feb. 4, 2009
James Madison Center for Free Speech Files Amicus Curiae Brief in Judge Recusal Case

Today, the James Madison Center for Free Speech filed a U.S. Supreme Court amicus curiae brief in support of Massey Coal Company in the case of Caperton v. Massey, 08-22. The case involves the decision of Justice Brent Benjamin of the West Virginia Supreme Court of Appeals not to recuse himself based on the fact that Don Blankenship, the CEO and President of Massey Coal, had spent a significant amount during the 2004 elections against Benjamin’s opponent, then West Virginia Supreme Court of Appeals Justice Warren McGraw. After Justice Benjamin cast the deciding vote in favor of Massey Coal, Caperton appealed, claiming that the Due Process Clause of the U.S. Constitution required the judge’s recusal.

“Requiring judges to recuse themselves based on campaign spending would have profound and disturbing implications for the U.S. judicial process,” said James Bopp, Jr., counsel for the James Madison Center. “Judicial elections have been a part of the American judicial system since 1789. They’ve always involved private campaign spending, and it’s never been the case that judges had to recuse themselves because a party has donated to their campaign or spent money trying to defeat their opponent.” Bopp stated that efforts to require recusal based on campaign spending were really an attempt to subvert this long history of judicial elections. “If someone wants to manipulate justice, mandatory recusal based on campaign spending makes it easy to do so. All a party has to do is donate to judges they don’t think are favorable to them, and they can ensure that judge will never hear their case. Effectively, this is little more than an attempt to second guess the voters’ decision and undermine the existence of judicial elections.”

The James Madison Center for Free Speech is a nonprofit nonpartisan organization dedicated to supporting litigation and public education activities to defend the First Amendment rights of citizens and citizen groups to free political expression and association. Named for James Madison, the author and principal sponsor of the First Amendment, the Madison Center is guided by Madison’s belief that “the right of free discussion . . . [is] a fundamental principle of the American form of government.”

The amicus brief can be found at James Madison Center

David Limbaugh

David Limbaugh: "It's going to take real courage the next four years for Republicans to swim against the tide and oppose Barack Obama -- in whom so many have placed their hopes, almost to the point of idolatry. But if Obama governs in a way that's consistent with his promises, the country's future security and prosperity will depend on spirited opposition.

It's bad enough for the liberal media to deify Obama, but it's almost unbearable for right-wing commentators and politicians to jump on this bandwagon, as well, as if Obama's personal attributes have blinded them to the policy dangers he represents."

"President Obama's economic recovery package will actually hurt the economy more in the long run than if he were to do nothing, the nonpartisan Congressional Budget Office said Wednesday.

The Obama administration will make every effort to pass a key piece of pro-union legislation. The bill has a misleading label: The Employee Free Choice Act (EFCA). In the interest of truth in advertising, the bill should be called, “The Employee Intimidation Act.” Why? "Democrats may have eliminated provisions on birth control and sod for the National Mall in the 'job stimulus' -- but buried on page 147 of the bill is stimulation for prevention of sexually transmitted diseases!

The House Democrats' bill includes $335 million for sexually transmitted disease education and prevention programs at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the DRUDGE REPORT has learned.

In the past, the CDC has used STD education funding for programs that many Members of Congress find objectionable and arguably unrelated to a mission of economic stimulus [such as funding events called 'Booty Call' and 'Great Sex' put on by an organization that received $698,000 in government funds.]" Visit:

"Card Check is the nickname for a legislative initiative that would remove from workers the right to a secret ballot when voting on whether or not to form a labor union at their place of employment. Currently, workers cast their ballots in secret. The rub here is that most of them vote against the unions, so the big labor bosses want everyone's vote to be cast in public by checking yes or no on a card and then signing their name. That of course opens the door for a wide range of intimidation and thuggery. Thus, it certainly will result in more shops voting to unionize, reversing a decades-long decline in union membership." College OTR: Tim Tebow's John 3:16 Eye Black Causes an Unholy Controversy

Tim Tebow passed for 231 yards and ran for 109 more as his Florida Gators defeated Oklahoma 24-14 in the college football national title game on January 8. As the game's Most Valuable Player, he thanked his "Savior, Jesus Christ" while the Bible verse "John 3:16" was prominently displayed in white within his eyeblack. Tebow stated, "For me, everyday includes four things, "God, family, academics and football,in that order."

What has this to do with pro-life? Last year when Tebow won the Heisman Trophy, college football's highest honor, LifeSiteNews.com ran a story about his parents Bob and Pam Tebow. Mom Pam was apparently advised to have an abortion as medications she needed to treat amoebic dysentery would result in "irreversable damage" to her unborn child, Tim. 2007 article, "Mother of Heisman Trophy winner, Tim Tebow rejected abortion."

The following site contains the photo of Tebow and John 3:16 as well as a photo of Tim Tebow on a mission trip. Numerous comments follow the article.
"Many view Florida quarterback Tim Tebow as God, but apparently he doesn’t share that view. The son of missionaries and a devout Christian, Tebow often looks for ways to spread his faith. The most recent way was at the BCS championship game, where he wrote “John 3:16” on his eye black." Visit:
